"This office is totally caring about my mouth! I have never been anywhere where they think about my care and how best to make better for me. I showed up yesterday and had a new hygienist. Made me a little nervous. She was so good. She did not use the water pick on me. She did the hand pick to get tartare off. She was amazing and did the best job! Her name is Rosie! She was amazing. Then I found put that they had thought about me before I got there and decided this would be better for me! All I can say is wow! What a wonderful place! A number of indicators may suggest that you are clenching your jaw and/or grinding your teeth at night. Maybe you frequently wake up with pain in your jaw, a headache, and swelling in your lower face. Other symptoms can include loose fillings or teeth, worn down enamel on the top of your back teeth, tooth sensitivity, or a receding gumline. Grinding and clenching at night are usually caused by stress but can also be the result of a sleep disorder, misaligned teeth, allergies, or temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD). After Dr. Patel has diagnosed your bruxism, he will also find out the cause in case your bite/night guard needs to be combined with another treatment for more effective results.
What to Expect
After Dr. Patel makes your diagnosis, he will take digital x-rays of your mouth to help create your custom bite/night guard, which will be crafted using high-quality materials. When your bite/night guard is complete, we will inform you so that you can come in for a fitting. Dr. Patel could make minor adjustments so your bite/night guard fits correctly. You will also be given directions on how to care for your night guard so it lasts a long time.
For your bite/night guard to be effective, you will need to wear it every night. Your bite/night guard will relieve or eliminate the pain and dental issues caused by bruxism, but if it does not, please call our team so Dr. Patel can consider other issues or try other therapies. To help keep your bite/night guard and mouth in good condition, you should properly clean both prior to and following each use. Be sure to bring your bite/night guard to all future appointments, exams, and cleanings so Dr. Patel can repair and adjust the guard as needed.
If you have been diagnosed with nocturnal bruxism or jaw clenching, part of the cost of your bite/night guard could be covered by your insurance company. If you have dental insurance, our team will contact your insurance carrier to obtain your coverage and costs. During your consult, Dr. Patel can discuss cost estimates, with or without dental insurance, and go over the various payment methods we accept. For more affordable dental care, Sangiv I. Patel, D.D.S., PA can help you apply for medical financing.
